RADIATION-SAFETY-MONTH

As you may know, we added 3D scans to our imaging protocol in 2013 and continue to be amazed by the detail and depth of information we have available to us.

Until recently, we were always looking at 3-dimensional objects on our 2-dimensional x-rays. You could view these items straight on, but had no ability to view them from the top, bottom, or sides until these Cone Beam scans became available to us.

We upgraded our system to 3-dimensional when we started placing implants and it gave us a tremendously accurate evaluation of the bone and surrounding structures.   These scans also provide a nice general view of the upper and lower arches.

One of the best advances in the 3D field has been the ability to reduce the radiation exposure to an incredibly small amount that equals the radiation exposure you’d experience just going about your normal day.

The future of these 3D scans is almost limitless.  These images can be very helpful when treating some of the following issues:

  1. Orthodontic treatment planning for growth and development analysis
  2. TMJ evaluations
  3. Sleep Apnea and airway problems
  4. Implant planning and evaluation

As always, we will continue to stay abreast of the latest advances in dentistry to better serve you.  Please let us know if we can answer any questions about these new 3D scans.
